No applying Indian culture is not bad but selling is wrong. One can implement the culture all over the world but should not try to misuse it.

Any culture not only Indian are not meant for sale. Its the one which is adapted. If some body want to live a life other than his culture then where the problem lies.

native inspired

I started this blog a little while ago: http://www.tumblr.com/tumblelog/nativeinspired and had someone make a comment about me stealing and misrepresenting Native culture when my intention was completely the opposite. It seems that some people are stuck on the idea that Natives are victims and taken advantage of which may have been the case at one time but the Natives I know (my family is native on my dads side) are strong, independent, entrepreneurs, artists, politicians, sports stars, business people and the list goes on. My auntie for example is a fashion designer and she made and sold many t-shirts with native designs and logos... she may have even put faces on some of her clothes. Maybe we need to start looking at things in a new way and focus on the positive side of people admiring native style, traditions, images and designs. Why not be proud that natives are so admired and that people who are not native want to buy a t-shirt of strikingly handsome and interesting men and women that display the strength and perseverance that native people represent.

Our cultures should stand for some timeless things - excellent customer service or empowering employees - but should be willing and able to change the parts of the culture that are not core to the differentiators of the business.

Culture can be both an inhibitor to growth and an enabler to growth. Only when culture changes and grows as the business evolves does it really reinforce your business.

I think that it is wonderful to wear a picture of a indian on my t-shirt.As long as if it is in good taste.

I agree with others who say it's a portrayal of a strong/brave man with a beautiful aesthetic. I'm white, but was born to a father who loved reading about Native American culture and embraced some its' ideals. I don't have a problem with the shirt. But I can't walk in your shoes.

I do have a problem if they're selling this shirt along side offensive shirts or otherwise demeaning the individual and culture portrayed in the image. I can respect if you don't like it, and I'd probably not purchase it. I still feel shame for what the white settlers and their armies did to your relatives. It's by far the saddest chapter in American history. I thank God that our country has changed, to an extent, but we're never to far from our past. History has a way of repeating itself; and even today the horrible consequences and current oppressions are so apparent on some of the reservations.

Enjoyed your blog and the chance to think about this.

Thanks!

A T-shirt typically extends to the waist. Variants of the T-shirt, like the tank top, A-shirt (with the nickname "wife beater"), muscle shirt, scoop neck, and the V-neck have been developed. Hip hop fashion calls for "tall-T" T-shirts which may extend down to the knees. A 1990s trend in women's clothing involved tight-fitting "cropped" T-shirts that are short enough to reveal the midriff. Another popular trend is wearing a "long-sleeved T-shirt", then putting a short-sleeved T-shirt of a different color over the long-sleeved shirt; this is known as "layering".

i do not know why somethings are sold but its been happening since day one stuff being sold even dreams,so eve eating from the tree in the garden of eden and she was tricked by a snake, and she bought the lie the snake had sold to her and now look at everyone,so the fact that people do what ever they wana because free will and dont think about morals or any thing so we as a people have that free will of speaking acting and like the fact of selling stuff that doesn't belong to any of us.but just like that things happen regardless so yeah it sucks to here about items being sold if u have time to really care about it or not.

I think it would be nice if corporations gave proceeds to the people they make money off of, but the truth is simple; It's a corporation not a charity. If indeed there was a vested interest for the Nation in question, they should make their own t-shirts, sell them for less, and advertise that they are authentic.

I am very proud of my cherokee blood.I think that it is wonderful to wear a picture of a indian on my t-shirt.As long as if it is in good taste. And yes I agree that it should be a part of the proceeds should be donated to educate the indian nation.I love the indian people.

i dont see a problem with wearing or buying a shirt with our strong proud warrior ancestors on them.i would and DO wear my native shirts proudly.i am a native and think that those t shirts might also help us educate others about who we really were and we lived.all tho i do agree that the money made should go to helping those on the reservations.lupich knowel jewteah!!!!

Dear Kevin,
Please don't be offended. I come an island in the Med, a world apart from you and your culture. I find the design beautiful and tasteful. It does not depict Native Americans in a bad light. On the contrary. It depicts your men as bold, strong, proud, masculine and beautiful.....
I find anything about American Indians totally interesting and feel nothing but admiration for your nation. I would be proud to wear a t-shirt like this. It shows support.
However, like you said, it would be a worthwhile gesture if part of the income is donated to upkeep reservations.

ray milton

you seem to be missing a big point, there are those amongst us who are descendants of your oppressors. Who centuries later feel guilt, shame and dishonour about how you and your ancestors are and were treated. To us it is an honour to wear something that symbolises in some small way our 'siding' with you and yours, rather than with our people. We are not celebrating the demise of your race or culture, rather we are hoping to keep it alive and in plain sight.

Paula Broncheau

Wear it loud and proud...

Bruno Chavez

I personally think that this is a nice design for a T Shirt. It in no way represents any of the montrosities done to indigenous people and these sorts of things interest youth culture into indigenous culture, whcich is postitive for everyone. I am half mexican and if i saw someone wearing a t shirt with an aztec i would be interested, not distraught.

sydney aletteck

Welcome to America... you are allowed to put whatever design on a shirt. I do not see how this is offensive in the least. He is clearly not doing anything offensive. There are tons of t-shirts with jewish jokes or even pictures that are meant to be funny or making fun of that people buy and wear. get over it.
